Darrel Akers

 

Darrel Lee Akers passed away on August 6, 2011 in Vacaville, California at the age of 66.

Darrel was the long-time editorial cartoonist for the Vacaville Reporter, utilizing his many skills to produce award-winning political cartoons for 38 years.  He also worked as a Naval Designer for Sperry-Rand/Unisys for 12 years, was a Naval Architecture Technician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for eight years, and served four years with the Air Police and Administration, United States Air Force.

He was co-creator of The Theater Machine in 1973; writing scripts, performing, and directing theater productions.

Darrel is survived by his wife Jo Anne, two daughters, his mother, one sister, one brother, and three grandchildren.

Darrel also served the Class of 1962 for several years as a member of the Reunion Committee.
