William Bland 'Bill' Burgin passed away suddenly on April 17, 1992 in Foster City, California at the age of 47.
Bill was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to Napa when he was one year old. He started school at Lincoln Elementary, where he was an original member of the Neighborhood Gang. After graduating from high school, Bill attended Chico State University for six months.
In 1963, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Linda Chipman. Bill and Linda grew up working in the family business, Chipman Moving and Storage, agents for Mayflower and United in California. They were married in the Chapel at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. They then built their home on the Chipman Family Ranch in Napa, where they raised their two children, Tammy and Jeff. During that time, Bill managed the Vallejo facility of Chipman Van and Storage.
In 1983, Bill and Linda began operating Chipman Moving & Storage in Spokane, Washington, and then purchased the business from Linda's family. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mayflower Warehouseman's Association, and served as Secretary-Treasurer for three years. He was also a member of the Spokane Club and enjoyed fishing, gin rummy, and listening to Country-Western music.
Following a long illness, Bill passed away in 1992, leaving a legacy for Linda to carry on with the help of their son Jeff.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda, two children, his mother and stepfather, one brother, one sister, and 13 nieces and nephews.
