Linda Louise (Chipman) Burgin passed away on December 14, 2017 in Spokane, Washington at the age of 72.
Linda was born in Vallejo, California and was raised on the family ranch in Napa. She attended Ridgeview Junior High, and after graduating from Napa High, married her high school sweetheart, William 'Bill' Burgin, also a member of the Class of '62. They were married in the Chapel at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. They built their home on the family ranch and developed a passion for raising and showing champion caliber quarter horses and Welsh ponies. In her entry in the 1982 Class Reunion compilation, she described herself as a 'Homemaker' . . .
In 1982, Linda and Bill moved to Spokane and purchased a Chipman Van and Storage Company in Spokane, Washington from Linda's parents, Art and Dorothy Chipman. They ran the business together until Bill's death in 1992 at the age of 47. At that point, Linda took over the business, and it flourished over the next 25 years with the help of her brothers John and Tom. And with the help of her son Jeff, they continued to expand the business as Linda served as a role model and mentor for other female professionals in the area. The company cosistently won national awards from United and Mayflower for quality service and sales growth. Linda won the State of Washington 'Business Woman of the Year' award. She also served as President of the Washington Mover's Association, and was a member of Executive Women International.
Linda battled different types of cancer for over 20 years; all the while staying positive, joyful, upbeat and strong. She bounced back from the edge so many times that it was said she was part cat with nine lives. She was a fierce fighter for her life and wanted to live as long as she could. As Linda's brain and liver cancer began to take its toll, she turned the business over to her son Jeff to carry on the family business heritage. She also participated in her daughter Tammy's Welsh pony breeding and training facility in Galt.
Linda was a faithful classmate and attended almost every class reunion. She had many friends all over the country who knew her from school, the moving business, and Tammy's Farmore Farms. She was always up for an adventure or a road trip -- and was a fun-loving grandmother. Linda was always so generous to her friends and family, and had a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
Linda is survived by her son Jeffrey Burgin, daughter Tammy Burgin, three brothers and one sister, and two grandchildren.
