Garret Grady Cochran passed away suddenly on November 14, 2001 in Pike, Sierra County, California at the age of 57.
After graduating from high school, Garret spent a four-year tour of duty with the U.S. Navy as a Machinery Repairman, Grade 2 (MR2). That was followed by a 26-year career at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, where he managed the retrofitting of nuclear submarines. After retiring from Mare Island in 1994, he took a part-time position for a mining company near land that he owned in Pike (population 134), and where he had planned to build a cabin.
With his passing, the family felt it appropriate for Garret to be buried in the historic Pike City Cemetery, close to the land that he loved.
Garret is survived by his wife Thelma 'Penny' Cochran, three daughters and one son, his parents, and six grandchildren.
