Gerald Alan 'Jerry' Dodd passed away on April 27, 2011 in Napa, California at the age of 67.
Jerry was born at Mare Island Naval Hospital, and grew up in Napa where he was active in 4-H Agriculture, raising rabbits and picking walnuts and prunes. As a teenager, Jerry distinguished himself as a Counselor for the Order of DeMolay.
After graduating from Napa High, Jerry attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City, earning dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Economics. He then enlisted in the US Army where he served combat tours in Vietnam. Jerry began his career in corporate insurance and residential real estate in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He relocated back to Napa where he became involved in a number of religious and beneficent organizations including St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Boy Scouts of America, Napa County Landmarks, and the Native Sons of the Golden West. His involvement in Scouting with Troop 86 endured long after his own sons were grown, collaborating with his close friend and fellow Scouter Bob Marshall to lead Summer Camps and camp maintenance projects at Camp Silverado at Silver Lake, high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in eastern Amador County.
Jerry is remembered for his good humor and generosity to people and organizations. He is survived by his former wife Sarah (Sampson) Dodd, his mother Deardra, one brother, two sons, three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a member of The Neighborhood Gang, dating back to the early days at Lincoln Elementary School. He first became famous as a Pilgrim riding the Mayflower on the High Seas in a skit performed by Den 1, Pack 108 in November 1952:
