Paula Jeanne (Foss) Hardwick passed away on October 7, 2011 in Santa Barbara, California at the age of 67.

Paula was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England as the daughter of an American Army Officer and a British war bride.  After her father retired from the military in 1960, they moved to Napa.  After graduating from Napa High, Paula attended Napa Junior College.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Francisco State College in 1966.

At Napa High, Paula was a member of the Girls Athletic Association, Junior Statesmen of America, the Debate Team, and the Thespians where she was cast in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.'  She was also on the Napanee Yearbook staff.

Paula married Michael Hardwick in December of 1965.  Following her graduation, they moved to Oxnard where Michael was serving in the U.S. Navy, then to Yokosuka, Japan during the Vietnam War, where their son Michael David was born.  Returning to the United States in 1969, Paula and Michael settled in Santa Barbara, where Paula began her career with the County of Santa Barbara Department of Social Services.  In 1977, their daughter Patricia Ann was born.  During her 34-year employment with the County, Paula participated in various Welfare to Work programs, including WIN, GAIN, and Cal WORKs.

She retired from Santa Barbara County in 2004 and spent the last nine years of her life traveling internationally with her husband and enjoying her family.

Paula was an active member of the Santa Barbara Community and participated in the Santa Barbara Fiesta, and the early development of El Presidio State Historic Park.  She also volunteered at La Purisima State Historic Park, and was a founding volunteer of the Huerta Historic Garden at Old Mission Santa Barbara.

Paula is survived by her husband of 46-years, Michael Hardwick, her son Michael, her daughter Patricia, her mother, one brother, one sister, and four grandchildren.
