James Edward 'Jim' Shipp passed away in Fairfield, California during the week of September 10, 2018 at the age of 74.
Immediately after graduating from high school (where he was a starting defensive lineman on the 1961 Varsity football team), Jim went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. There, he worked on submarines and rose to the position of Sheet Metal Foreman.
After retiring from Mare Island, Jim spent many years traveling throughout the country in his RV; camping, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin. His favorite campsite was at the Hole in the Ground Campground in the Lassen National Forest near the town of Mineral.
Jim was also an extraordinary 'handyman' spending many hours in his garage where he could fix or repair anything. Computer research was also a specialty.
Jim is survived by his wife Peggy, one brother, two sisters, two daughters, and his grandchildren, which were his pride and joy.

Jim was in some of my classes at Alta Heights. He was tall then. I was one of the shortest kids in the class so that made him seem taller. In one class I sat close to him . I remember how nice he was to the children around him. A couple of months ago I read his profile. He had some serious health issues. Yet he had such a positive outlook. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
